As we enter the holidays and start to wind down 2024, we wanted to look back at the past year for the Everything Marketplaces community and share some of the highlights. Before we do though, we'd like to thank all of our community members for helping make 2024 a big year. Here are some highlights from this past year:
2024 Year In Review For The Community
- We made big updates to Marketplace School, Marketplace Co-Founder Match, and Marketplace Jobs. We also created new products & resources like our Marketplace Launch, Marketplace Expert Directory, and more.
- We added new EIRs to our community Entrepreneur In Residence (EIR) program.
- The community has grown to 2,500+ marketplace founders & leaders
- 30+ countries are represented in the community including the US, Mexico, Canada, Australia, England, Germany, France, Sweden, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Argentina, Poland, and more.
- 380+ female marketplace founders & leaders are part our female founders group & space.
- Over 3,700+ posts & comments have been shared in the community this year with founders asking questions, sharing learnings, and valuable marketplace insights to help others.
- We created 400+ hours of content on building, operating, and scaling marketplaces.
- We hosted 120+ community events (online & offline)
- 30+ marketplace founders & leaders joined us as group chat guests (almost) every Tuesday to share their marketplace experience, learnings, and help answer questions with a group Q&A. You can see all past group chat recordings for reference here.
- 50+ office hours every Thursday where founders joined in to get help with their marketplaces.
- 10+ founders fundraising meetings where founders raising Pre-Seed/Seed rounds joined in to get help on fundraising & help others.
- 4+ workshops on marketplace topics like marketplace monetization, marketplace expansion, fundraising, and building a marketplace MVP. You can see all past workshop recordings for reference here.
- 5+ community Ask Me Anything (AMA) events took place with founders on topics like fundraising to help share their learnings, insights, and answer questions from other founders.
- 10+ local meetups in cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, London, Chicago, Toronto, & more. Over 500+ founders & teams attended our local meetups and you can see a recap post highlighting some of our meetups from this past year here.
- We backed 12+ marketplaces through Marketplace Capital this year, growing our portfolio to 21 investments.
2024 Community Outcomes
In addition to the community highlights, here are some notable outcomes that our community members achieved in 2024:
- 500+ founders completed Marketplace School
- 10+ founders launched using our new Marketplace Launch (Note that this is since we announced Marketplace Launch in December)
- 15+ marketplaces made key hires through Marketplace Jobs (Note that you can see an example shared as a win here)
- $290M+ in capital was raised by the community this year from initial friends & family rounds, to Series A rounds (Note that this is not including later stage growth rounds also raised by our community)
The above is a brief recap for the Everything Marketplaces community in 2024. There are so many more ways that the community has helped founders, stories of new friendships that have been created, and more. With that said, none of this would be possible without your support, so we'd like to thank all of our group chat guests, workshop leads, community leaders, and all of our community members that have helped pay it forward this year.
